New Artist for 3/7/2011 - 3/14/2011 is Mover Shaker.
Not a whole lot is known about “Peter John,” the artist behind Mover Shaker. Based on a few failed attempts of contacting him on his e-mail address, I finally made contact via Tumblr.
If you follow the 1APD blog, you already know that I don’t post mash-up artists too often. I think the last mash-up artist I posted was White Panda back in August 2010, in response to their release, Rematch.
I feel like nowadays, not a whole lot surprises me in the mash-up industry. I think that some of the biggest artists in the game aren’t doing anything too different. Mover Shaker is the first one that has caught my interest in many months. Some of his songs have either a laid-back vibe (good background music at a beach party), or grimy and hard hitting purpose (good college tailgating music).
His most recent release is “Empthaous” which is a Crystal Castles and Busta Rhymes mash-up and he accomplished something that I didn’t think was possible: he actually made me enjoy listening to Busta Rhymes. He did the same with Waka Flocka and Soulja Boy. He managed to make each of them appealing to me, which is not an easy task. He matched Memory Tapes with Soulja Boy, and Skrillex with Waka Flocka.
